DataON Kepler 2-Node (K2N) Hyper-Converged Appliances for SMB, ROBO and Edge

A few weeks ago, DataON launched the Kepler 2-Node (K2N) family of hyper-converged appliances for Windows Server 2016 Storage Spaces Direct and Hyper-V, designed for small businesses, remote office/branch office (ROBO), and Edge computing environments.

The K2N Series was born out of a Kepler-47 concept unveiled at Microsoft Ignite as a lowest-cost, high performing, resource-efficient, hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) able to run Windows Server Storage Spaces Direct. The Kepler-47 had a 2-node mini-tower design, connected by Intel Thunderbolt 3 to eliminate the need for an expensive Ethernet switch.

There are three members of the DataON K2N family:

  • K2N-47 – Value-optimized solution in a mini-tower form factor, with hybrid or all-flash storage
  • K2N-108 – Performance-optimized solution in a 1U rack form factor, with all-NVMe flash storage
  • K2N-212 – Flexible solution in a 2U rack form factor with hybrid or all-flash storage

The K2N Series combines high-performance NVMe SSDs with your choice of all-flash or hybrid storage to maximize performance and capacity. They are easily deployable and in most cases straight out of the box and up and running in as little as fifteen minutes. The mini-tower nodes are connected by Intel Thunderbolt 3 while the rack nodes are connected by 25GbE cables (without an Ethernet switch).

The K2N Series is a validated Intel Select Solution for Windows Server Software-Defined Storage. Having this certification means that our solutions follow Intel’s best practices for seamless deployments and steady-state operational experience on validated hardware.
