Migration Options from VMware to Azure Stack HCI

Many organizations are planning to leave VMware and choose another virtualization and hybrid cloud solution. Many are choosing Microsoft Azure Stack HCI with Hyper-V as their complete hybrid cloud solution. One of the tasks admins will face when they migrate to Azure Stack HCI is deciding which application they’ll use to migrate their VMs from VMware to Hyper-V. Here are three available options: Azure Migrate, Veeam Backup & Replication and Commvault Cloud.

Azure Migrate (preview) is a streamlined migration subscription service from Microsoft that enables you to replicate and migrate VMware VMs to Hyper-V and move VMs back and forth between on-premises and Azure. Although the application is in Azure, all data remains on-premises. It’s free for the first 180 days, so admins can migrate without incurring cost.

Veeam Backup & Replication enables admins to migrate VMs across VMware and Hyper-V, and back and forth on-premises and the cloud. Veeam is also a powerful backup and recovery solution with analytics and orchestration. It’s a single, user-friendly and software-defined solution that works with any storage setup. It also lets you organize and manage backups and use policy-based tiering to archive data across different storage classes.

With Commvault Cloud, admins can migrate VMs across VMware and Hyper-V and back and forth between on-premises and the cloud. Commvault delivers a complete backup, recovery, and cybersecurity solution. It also includes analytics, orchestration, AI, and optional backup and recovery services.
