5th Gen Intel® Xeon® processors and DataON Integrated Systems for Azure Stack HCI can help organizations unlock the full potential of their Microsoft hybrid cloud workloads. The provide improved compute and AI performance, enhanced security, and increased scalability.
Built-in accelerators in 5th Gen Intel Xeon processors enable organizations to offload tasks from CPU cores. This reduces the number of cores needed per workload and allowing for the ability to run more VMs and applications like Azure Virtual Desktop for Azure Stack HCI, Azure Kubernetes Services enabled by Azure Arc, SQL Server, AI and ML, and more on your Azure Stack HCI clusters. 5th Gen Intel Xeon processors also excel in various AI use cases, including generative AI, recommender systems, and natural language processing (NLP), with its built-in AI accelerators.
New memory and I/O technologies featured in 5th Gen Intel Xeon processors, include support for DDR5, PCIe 5.0 and Compute Xpress Link (CXL):
- DDR5 – DDR5 improves compute performance by overcoming data bottlenecks with high memory bandwidth. It offers up to 1.7x bandwidth improvement over DDR4, enabling better performance, capacity, power efficiency, and cost savings. It also supports DDR5 memory speeds up to 5,600 MT/s (1 DPC) or 4,400 MT/s (2 DPC), enhancing performance for memory-bound and latency-sensitive workloads.
- PCIe 5.0 – PCIe5.0 doubles the I/O bandwidth compared to PCIe 4.0.5th Gen Intel Xeon processors provide 80 lanes of PCIe 5.0, ideal for fast networking, high-bandwidth accelerators, and high-performance storage devices. It also maintains backward compatibility with PCIe 4.0 and offers foundational slots for CXL (Compute Express Link).
- CXL Support – CXL enables a unified, coherent memory space between different components, reduces compute latency in data centers. It helps lower the total cost of ownership (TCO), runs across the standard PCIe physical layer and supports both standard PCIe devices and CXL devices on the same link.
With 5th Gen Intel Xeon processors, you’ll see improved performance across all applications:
- General compute performance – Delivers up to 1.84x average performance gain compared to 3rd Gen Intel Xeon processors.
- AI performance – Supports large-language models (LLMs) of up to 20 billion parameters, meeting service-level agreements (SLAs) for delivering real-time user experiences with less than 100ms second-token latency on LLMs. It delivers 42% better AI performance than the previous Gen and up to 14x better AI performance than 3rd Gen Intel Xeon processors.
- HPC performance – Up to 2.1x higher average HPC performance compared to 3rd Gen Intel Xeon processors.
- Web and microservices performance – Up to 1.3x higher throughput compared to 4th Gen Intel Xeon processors, on DeathStarBench—Social Network Microservices workload (Read Home Timeline) with 100ms SLA.
- Database and analytics performance – Up to 3.7x higher RocksDB performance using integrated Intel IAA, compared to 3rd Gen Intel Xeon processors using Zstd.
- Networking Performance – Up to 1.7x higher NGINX TLS handshake performance with integrated Intel QAT, compared to 3rd Gen Intel Xeon processors.
- Security – With built-in accelerators, 5th Gen Intel Xeon processors can offload tasks from CPU cores, reducing the number of cores needed per workload and allowing for increased capacity or the ability to run more applications on each server.
